DS9: Fascination

This is literally the episode where Lwaxana Troi gives the crew of DS9 the love bug. I should have been suspicious she was behind the whole fiasco when she showed up near the beginning and should have known it was her when they didn't show any ominous characters with dark music. I think I actually liked the B story about the O'Brien's having to deal with Keiko's absence more than the silly everybody is falling in love A story.
The episode opens with Jake moping over the loss of Mardah, she has headed off to college on the other side of the quadrant and the two of them have broken things off. Ben encourages his son to come with him to the Bajoran Gratitude Festival that evening and Jake reluctantly agrees. Bashir and Miles are having lunch talking about how much Miles misses Keiko and that she and Molly are going to visit for the first time in months. Kira stops by Odo's office and learns he is planning on attending the Gratitude Festival for the first time and she is very pleased to hear that, but he isn't pleased to hear Bareil is showing up to hang out with Kira during the festival. Kira and O'Brien meet at the airlock and Kira enthusiastically greets Bareil while Keiko is a bit distraught. Molly isn't feeling good and vomits on Miles and we learn why, Lwaxana has been feeding her candy. Lwaxana heads straight for Odo's office and he is not exactly excited to see her arrive.
Things aren't going well with the O'Brien's right away. Keiko is exhausted from the trip but Miles is really looking forward to spending some time together. She agrees to go to the festival but is clearly not into it. The festival begins and we see Jake and Bareil both get headaches at the same time. Jake then follows Kira and declares his love for her while Bareil starts hitting on Dax with all the intensity he can muster. And that is basically how the rest of the love virus thing goes. Kira is hurt that Bareil is into Dax now but falls in love with Bashir, Dax falls in love with Sisko, and Quark falls in love with Keiko. The O'Briens get in a fight in Quarks because Miles is sad that Keiko is going to be gone even longer than he thought and she is upset that he is trying to control her. She storms off but he follows her and appoligizes and even offers to resign from starfleet. She doesn't want to talk and stays in her room but later shows up at the party in his favorite dress and he realizes he did the right thing to apologize. Bashir diagnoses Lwaxana with the love virus and save the day.

Review: Honestly not a great episode but at least the B story worked pretty well. It is fun to see characters acting out of character, but it gets old pretty fast and having it all center around Lwaxana isn't exactly my favorite TNG call back.
