DS9: Crossfire

An entire episode devoted to Odo's relationship problems is a bit much. It is also super DS9. It starts be setting up Odo's hopes for the relationship and then smashes them to pieces. At the same time it establishes Odo's relationship with Worf and also furthers his friendship with Quark. The assassination attempt is just a small side plot which wasn't quite what I expected.
The episode opens with Odo preparing for Kira's arrival so the two of them can go over the morning crime activity report. He spends several minutes getting everything arranged and getting her drink ready, but she seems totally carefree. Odo and Worf work on a plan for the security for the upcoming visit to the station by Bajoran First Minister Shakar, Kira's old friend from the resistance. He arrives and seems to be hitting it off with Kira quickly. Odo spends the entire episode agitated about it. There is news that there will be an assassination attempt and Odo is so distracted by the two of them that he almost lets it happen and only stops it by shapeshifting. Odo is super worked up about it and Quark tries to talk to him, but Odo isn't having it. That night he finds that Shakar has been in Kira's quarters for hours and afterwards loses it and destroys his quarters. Quark stops by to complain about the noise but sees what is wrong and tries to encourage Odo. Odo keeps trying to talk to Kira about it, but can't bring himself to and resigns himself to her new relationship and gets back to work.

Review: This episode really didn't hold my interest as much as I would have expected. It just felt a lot like high school romance problems and while I am sure it was facinating when I was actually in high school it hasn't aged all that great.
