A very scifi episode that was probably pretty cheap to produce, but not in a bad way. By having the ship be twisted around itself in ways that aren't visible to the crew it has them running around the hallways looking lost where they usually look so at home. Neelix isn't awful in this one, but going from his gag being that he is a terrible cook to a gag about him being jealous all the time is kinda lame. It also gives some of the crew a chance to open up with each other in ways we don't usually see which is probably my favorite scene.
We begin on the holodeck where Kes walks into a darkened version of Paris's bar only to have the lights come on and a yell of, "surprise!" It is a surprise birthday party and most of the senior staff are there. Cut to the bridge where Kim tries to convince Tuvok into letting him off early so he can visit the party and Tuvok actually plays along, but then they run into a spacial anomaly. Tuvok calls Janeway but the comms fail and his message gets super distorted. The anomaly collapses into them and Kim gets sent to find the captain. Tuvok tries flying out at warp but it fails. The captain sends Torres to engineering and heads to the bridge, but none of them end up where they planned. In fact the all end up back on deck 6 at the holodeck. Paris accidentally found engineering so he tries to take Torres there so she can set up a site to site transport, but it just sends them back to the holodeck.
The spread out with tricorders to map the new topography and try to find the bridge. Kim and Janeway go through the Jefferey's tubes but the captain gets her arm stuck into a zone of distortion and then passes out. They all end up back in the holodeck again and Torres has a plan to overload the warp core to get them blasted out. But it doesn't work and it looks like they are going to die. Torres struggles to come up with a new plan and Tuvok suggests maybe everything they are trying is making things worse so maybe they should just sit and let it happen. They all say their goodbyes to each other but after the field collapses they are all back to normal.
Review: A solid episode with good character bits. Not super noteworthy and it would have been cool if they had slightly better effects for some of it, but overall it works.
6 out of 10
