DS9: Invasive Procedures

I guess the plural in the name should tell the audience all they need to know about this episode, namely that the Trill surgery is going to happen twice. But even though the audience can probably guess they aren't going to kill Jadzia this episode still has a lot of tension. I really appreciate how Quark is getting back into the backstabbing business, having him be so reasonable so much of the time and actually helping Odo is kinda out of character for him, especially when there is money to be made. It does seem a little odd that they decided to have the station be evacuated again this episode, it makes me wonder if they were having problems getting their extras back from vacation or something.
The episode opens with the station empty other than the command crew and Quark who is sitting in one of the airlocks for no apparent reason. There is a plasma storm which is a danger to the station but especially to any small ships in the area which is why it is so surprising that a small ship with apparent damage arrives. They tow it into a docking port with the tractor beam and send O'Brien and Odo down to great them. Unfortunately the two more combat ready members of the crew are immediately overwhelmed by Klingons with disruptors and they force Odo into a sealed container. The Klingons move on to Ops and capture the rest of the crew while their leader talks to Quark about their deal, but of course he has also betrayed Quark and not brought the money.
In ops they learn that the bandits are being led by a Trill who was rejected from the bonding who is determined to steal Dax from Jadzia. They resist at first but one of them shoots O'Brien so Jadzia agrees to go through with it even though it will kill her. Bashir is torn up having to perform an operation that will mostly likely kill Jadzia. The operation works and Jadzia is at least temporarily alive still, but it is only a matter of time. Along with the Trill there is an alien girl who is his second in command since they are apparently in love, but as soon as he is a Dax he clearly no longer cares for her if he ever did to start with.
Sisko can read the situation and knows Dax better than the new host does. The plan is apparently for Dax to leave on one ship and then meet with his girlfriend on another ship in the gamma quadrant, but everybody including her figures out it is a lie. Julian manages to knock out one of the Klingon guards and with Quarks help they free Odo. Sisko confronts Mr. Dax in an airlock and Dax walks by saying Benjamin wouldn't shoot his friend. Sisko says, "don't call me Benjamin," and blasts Dax. Bashir manages to get the symbiote back in Jadzia saving the day.

Review: Less of a big story than the three parter that lead up to it, but still an impactful story. A few problems like the former comfort girl being able to easily defeat former militia member Kira in hand to hand combat don't ruin it, but they do drag it down a bit.
