A couple things bothered me in this episode. The biggest being the assertion that a random violent thought could travel from one person to another but never happen again through the rest of the episode. I know it turns out that isn't really what happened, but everyone seems to just accept that it is a possibility. Also in a culture with so many mind probes how have they never caught a member of the violent thought club before? Also at one point the prosecutor says she needs the thought out of Torres so she can remove it from dude who became violent but then it seems like she has removed the other guys thought before actually doing the procedure with Torres.
We open with Neelix getting ready to beam down to a planet of telepaths to hit on the vegetable stand lady. He arrives and she is interested but across the way Torres and Janeway are negotiating for parts for the ship. Some guy bumps into Torres and she gets flustered but doesn't make a big deal out of it. A few minutes later there is a scream as the man she bumped into beats some guy with a piece of metal and then says he doesn't know why he did it. Tuvok meanwhile is walking around with the local head of the police. They rush to the scene of the beating and the Chief Examiner insists on questioning Janeway, Neelix and Torres. It seems Torres had a thought of violence when she bumped into that guy in the market and it somehow transferred into him causing him to freak out and attack a stranger. That is fine but it means they are going to cut out a part of Torres' brain (they aren't actually clear on this point but the way everyone freaks out I am pretty sure this was what the writers meant. Torres is naturally upset about this.
Tuvok starts his own investigation including a mindmeld with Torres where he realizes they guy she bumped into made some sort of intentional psychic contact with her. Tuvok manages to track the guy down and pretends to be interested in sharing violent thoughts with him in order to instantly infiltrate a secret group of violent thought seekers. Tuvok manages to mindmeld with the guy and maybe breaks him mentally but at the same time discovers the truth. This barely manages to convince the chief examiner and she lets Torres out of the brain surgery rig.
Review: Some real plot holes in this one but overall not bad. The questions raised are going to take this ones score down a bit, but it still manages to work overall.
